Writerly Wednesday Welcomes Rebecca Minto!

If you came into possession of an e-reader during the past few days, this is the site for you.  Our Writerly guests almost always have e-copies.

Interview

1. What is your favorite marketing task that has resulted in a sale?

I feel that my most successful marketing was purchasing an ad space on the Eye On Romance websites and allowing them to review my first release, A Kiss To Remember. I had great results.

2. What do you like about your publisher or why did you decide to Self Publish?

I have never worked with any other publisher than Eternal Press, so I don’t have anyone else to compare them to from personal experience. I really liked the fact that they treat all of their authors equally and I think they try to be fair to everyone. If there is a change, they do let you know immediately.

3. What do you have under your bed?

A smoking hot faerie prince

4. Are you a plotter or a pantser when you are writing?

I always have some plot in place when I’m writing, but sometimes in the midst of writing I may trail off the path a bit and find something new that works better than what I planned.

5. Do you write in a bubble or do you prefer critique groups, writing buddies or other companionship during the process?

It depends on the story I’m writing. In my latest release, A Touch To Remember, I stayed in my bubble from start to finish and then brought in my trusted friends to critique. Other times when I’m writing, I’ll fire off ideas and brainstorms to those I trust, have them help me edit and critique each chapter as it is written. It depends what my story demands when I’m writing it. I’m pretty flexible as long as I’m working towards the ending goal.

6. When do ideas come to you and how do you capture them?

I get ideas everywhere, every single day. It is both a blessing and a curse to have a curious and wandering mind. The most mundane interactions can lead me to a full story idea. Sometimes I’ll jot notes down in a notebook, or if I have a full, start-to-finish idea I’ll do a brief synopsis and I’ll come back to it when I can.

7. What is your favorite word processing program and what other tools do you use, pen, notebooks, white board, index cards, finger on fogged bathroom mirrors?

I use Microsoft Word for Mac for my word processing, simply because I’m so familiar with Microsoft Word. I love to surround myself with research books and notebooks of hand-written notes when writing. To help keep me on track, I’ll put up a desktop wallpaper of some picture that reminds me of the story I’m working on. I may also light some candles of a scent that remind me of certain scenes, etc. If a need a break I’ll often put on some music and close my eyes, but the music usually is something that will also put me back in the story (such as Mozart for Regency, Celtic instrumentals for Highlanders, etcetera). I try to lock myself into a story until I can’t let it go. This is a good thing, because I really am dedicated to the story, but the downside is that I always feel so lost once I finish a book.

From Sally – I will research all day long and very little of it will end up in my finished project.  __

Bio:

Just who is this Rebecca Minto chick? I ask myself that same question just about every day. I’m a woman, a mother, a lunatic, a romance writer, a laughaholic, a sister, a daughter, and usually more than just a little bit crazy.

My first romance novel, A Kiss To Remember, was released January 7, 2012. More stories will follow because this crazy Rebecca chick just can’t seem to stop writing. I love creating a world to amuse and entertain my readers almost as much as I love sitting down and watching the latest Marvel movie. As much as I love reading and writing romance novels, I can’t stand most romantic flicks.

I currently live in Utah, in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, a world away my native Kentucky and Tennessee. When I’m not writing, you can usually find me pretending to be The Hulk or catering to my little diva of a dog, Alice.

A Touch to Remember

Blurb:

She would break all the rules for his touch.

Annalise always followed all the rules, but that is at an end. She is haunted by a terrible memory that makes it easier and easier to do the things no proper lady would ever do…particularly where Elliot Morton is concerned.

Elliot Morton is a man withholding many secrets, particularly from Lady Annalise. He never wanted another woman more than he wants his own sweet Anna, but dangerous foes threaten to rip their world apart. He will do anything to keep her safe, even from himself.

Excerpt:

She frowned, staring away from him. “I am not sad, sir.”

He grasped her chin between his thumb and forefinger, forcing her to look up at him. “You have the saddest eyes I’ve ever seen.”

“Then stop looking at my eyes,” she ordered haughtily.

“Ah, there’s that nasty little tone you save just for me.”

She stopped, finally shocked into silence. “Whatever do you mean, sir?”

“You have this snotty voice you use only when you are annoyed with me,” he explained quietly.

“I do not,” she said, carefully enunciating each syllable.

Elliot laughed outright, urging her forward with a light pressure on her shoulder. “Now I’ve made you self-conscious about it.”

“I apologize if my voice is offensive, sir. I assure you, I mean no insult when I speak to you.”

“Yes, you do, Anna. You don’t do it all the time. What I would like to know is why you dislike me so damned much.”

“It is improper for you to curse in front of me.”

“Yes, it is,” he agreed easily.

“I note you did not apologize.”

“I didn’t,” he agreed.

They walked several steps forward in tense silence.

“Aren’t you going to apologize?”

He glanced down at her. “No.”

She sighed heavily. “That is what I feared.”

“Aren’t you going to berate me?”

She glanced up at him with those long amber eyes that sent a punch to his gut. He pulled her more tightly against him, trying to convince himself that he wasn’t desperately in lust with the little she-cat.

“No,” she retorted succinctly.
