SERIAL DATE: A retired assassin. A serial killer with a social agenda.
A politician with a fondness for free-range livestock.
Determined to leave her old life behind, retired assassin Leine Basso accepts a job working security at one of television’s most popular reality shows, Serial Date. When a contestant is found dead in the prop closet, it appears the killer is one of the ‘bachelors’ on the show- an ex-con billed as a serial killer- but the detective in charge of the case isn’t so sure.
When Leine’s estranged daughter is abducted by a man claiming to be the real killer, she’s forced to rely on old skills to find her, and must come to terms with who she really is. She soon realizes the murderer may be a grisly remnant from her past and she’ll need to use all of her cunning to stop him, and rescue her daughter.
Interview
1. In three days, all power will go off, everywhere for a very long time. What will you include in your author survival kit?
Solar-powered laptop & 4G phone, loaded Kindle, several packets of vegetable seeds, dark chocolate and many cases of red wine. I’m all about barter ?
2. Where did the idea for the work you are promoting arise?
From a severely twisted dream that woke me out of a dead sleep.
From Sally – last week’s guest mentioned his dream-life. It seems to be a normal thing for writers to cultivate the dream-world and all of its potential.
3. What do you like to read?
Lots of stuff. I gravitate toward fast-paced thrillers and mysteries as well as satire, but also love good historical fiction. I tend to read whatever’s within reach if I’m stuck sitting somewhere; signs, cereal boxes, license plates…
4. Tell us about the most exciting place you have ever visited?
Snorkeling in the Virgin Islands in fairly shallow water when a HUGE (we’re talking bus-size) manta ray floated by underneath me. I inhaled a LOT of sea water. Other than that, I’d say San Francisco during the Loma Prieta earthquake.
5. What is the most mundane, day to day, thing you can share about yourself?
I love carrots?
6. What scares you the most?
Narrow minds and the people who have them.
7. Tell us anything but keep it G rated.
I’m currently working on the second book in the Leine Basso/Santiago Jensen series. With a good tailwind, I expect it to be available in the fall. After that, I’ve got at least two more Kate Jones Thrillers in the works, with several more ideas on the boards. I’m also beginning a new professional chapter (sorry for the pun ?) and will be writing full-time. Wish me luck!
From Sally – I am sure all Writerly Wednesday Writers and Readers are cheering you on!
