Interview
1. What is your favorite marketing task that has resulted in a sale?
To be honest, I really don’t like marketing. I can’t say I have a favourite task because I always feel self-conscious about it. I do, however, genuinely enjoy meaningful engagement. Being a part of the Goodreads community has been a great deal of fun for me, if my participation there has resulted in sales, good!
2. What do you like about your publisher or why did you decide to Self Publish?
Damnation Books has been wonderful to work with. They were utterly professional at all times, answered all my questions, and gave me enough control over my book (cover art etc.) that I feel like we had a true partnership. Dawne, my cover artist, was simply amazing. She created a gorgeous, striking cover in no time at all and I am very, very proud to have her on my team.
3. What do you have under your bed?
An exercise mat and a nervous cat.
4. Are you a plotter or a pantser when you are writing?
I tend to hover between the two. I get an idea, plot it out loosely, and then pants the journey between the plot points. This does mean I have to do a lot of work between first and second drafts when I’m clearing out the scenes that don’t fit into the narrative, but I don’t really have the discipline to stick to a detailed plan.
5. Do you write in a bubble or do you prefer critique groups, writing buddies or other companionship during the process?
I definitely prefer companionship. Writing can be a lonely job and having an active circle of other writers only a few clicks away makes it a lot more enjoyable. I’ve joined a few groups on Facebook, and made some amazing friends who really help me to hone my craft.
6. When do ideas come to you and how do you capture them?
I get ideas when I’m doing mundane tasks; driving, washing the dishes or hanging the laundry. I try to write them down as quickly as I can. I recently discovered a very useful, free, iPad app that I use to keep track of my ideas and it’s also helping me plan a bit better.
7. What is your favorite word processing program and what other tools do you use, pen, notebooks, white board, index cards, finger on fogged bathroom mirrors?
I write my first draft in MSWord. Then I put it into PowerStructure during my first edit. After that I use PowerStructure until the novel is complete.
I am using an iPad app called A Novel Idea to plan and track my ideas. If I don’t have my iPad handy I use my phone to take notes.
Biography
Angela has been writing stories for as long as she can remember, and she has three short stories published in anthologies of horror and a self-published short story. Angela also writes a popular blog about science and skepticism, and she is the Managing Editor of a Fantasy magazine.
When she is not writing or taking care of her two children, she is reading or playing nerdy games with her husband (who Rick-rolled her at the altar).

Excerpt:
They all sat together on the couch in front of the television. Dylan sat in the middle with Carla and Robin on either side of him. The tired anchorman continued his vigil, narrating the fall of civilization.
“Despite all that is happening, we are saddened to report gangs of living people have been seen looting houses and shops. Most are stealing tinned foods and bottled water but many have been seen carrying expensive computers and televisions.”
The screen changed and showed footage of two young men struggling out through a smashed store window. They were carrying a large flat-screen TV between them. They did not escape with their prize, however, because as they cleared the debris outside the shop a pair of the walking corpses attacked them.
One of the men dropped his end of the TV screen and sprinted away from the attackers, but his partner faced up to the corpses in a moment of bravado. He took a step backwards and looked into the lifeless eyes pouched in sockets of bone and parchment flesh. He pulled a pistol out of his belt and aimed at the closer of the two attackers. It was about ten feet from him when he squeezed the trigger and delivered a slug of lead to the beast’s unsuspecting brow. It fell in a spray of pus and gore and bone fragments and the young man aimed his weapon at the second attacker.
It was much closer now. It reached out its arm, clothed in decaying rags, and tried to grab him. The young man’s mouth opened in a scream of rage and terror and he shot the creature. Its head exploded and curdled brain matter rained onto its slumped form. The young man tucked his gun back into his pants and set off after his fleeing companion.
