We have had four days of warm weather in a row. Last I heard there will be two more and then maybe some snow. Six days of temperatures above fifty after surviving a winter that started in October is a very welcome change.
Robins and Magpies are nesting. The grass is greening and some of the creek side bushes are waking up. The landscape is a bit worse for wear at this point. The voles are tunneling everywhere. Soon, the cat will begin her season of throwing up field mice and small birds.
The snow has melted in exposed areas. A long winter’s worth of litter is no longer trapped in the plowed snow heaps and plant life has not filled out enough to hide it. Most of the trash will be picked up as soon as the local life forms are certain another six inch storm isn’t going to cover it again.
Montana winters are too long for me. I often say we have two seasons, here, Winter and July. I like to go out on warm sunshiny mornings. I sit on the porch in the sunshine like a lizard on a rock. In the winter, I just sit. The brightest light comes from my computer screen and I turn to vitamin supplements to stave off the worst of Cabin Fever.
I was just out in the East Yard and a deer came tromping through. Our yard is part of a system of trails so joggers, families, bike riders and assorted critters are out of hibernation. Havan, my sleepy side kick and CCI dog ignores the occasional running deer, pink shirted joggers and grumpy nesting birds.
The only drawback to good weather is the reflection on bright white paper and difficulty seeing a computer screen. Both, make it difficult to get any work done without coming back inside.
I’ll see you all in a few days with a new observation so don’t go too far away.
