Last night was my first experience of Launch Day. On the seventh of each month, Eternal Press has a Launch Day Chat for the new release authors. Yesterday, five authors’ work went live. This was a chat I planned on attending as a lurker.
Something happened and the CEO could not get an internet connection and I got tapped to come out. I was nervous about lurking and the probability that I would be the Hostess of this chat in June. About a half hour before the chat, I was going through notes, files, emails and hoping I didn’t do something really stupid.
This happened at the same time an overnight guest arrived for my son. That was just enough chaos, real or imagined. What could possibly happen?
So, I’m doing my best to moderate, excusing my newness at every opportunity and being thankful that the guests were being kind to me. What could possibly happen?
I’m trying to cut and paste, watch the conversation and the Parrot is walking across my hand crocheted rug with two slices of pizza. I might have missed a beat but I got the pizza back and got someone to capture and imprison the bird. What could possibly happen?
I settled into the chat room again, still not exactly breathing when I glance out the window to my right. I looked away, then back. Havan, my service dog from CCI was standing on my porch, unleashed and curious. She is never allowed outside without a leach or direct supervision. I let her in. It turned out that when our guest showed up, they took the dog outside and got distracted and forgot to bring her in.
Can anything else happen?
No, nothing else.
Let me look on the bright side.
The bird is fine. The dog is fine. And I am no longer terrified over having to host my first Launch Day Chat.
I’ll be back in a few days with another Life is a Story Moment.
