Here is how it works..
To enter this contest, all you have to do is read the Question and Leave a Comment. Easy as stepping in dog poop. Comments are moderated because of the Spam Monsters so your reply might not show up right away. The contest will end at midnight your time on 31 May, 2011.
I will write your name on a sheet of notebook paper and cut it out, then I’ll put all of the names together in my NaNoWriMo Mug and my Grandson, Jeepers, aged 3, will draw the lucky winner’s name.
Do you listen to music while you read?
Some find it distracting, others find it comforting. If I really like the tunes that are playing I become too distracted to read. I prefer ambient, new-age or environmental music if I remember my Kindle will play while I read.
When you leave a comment feel free to use as many words as you wish. Remember, if you are new to the site, your comment may not show up right away. The contest ends on the last day of May at midnight your time. You should consider yourself encouraged to share the link to this page.
So, you are wondering what you might win this month. Because the question is about music I am offering a $20.00 Gift Card for Itunes. If you are one who prefers silence you are welcome to re-gift.

No, I don’t listen when I read. But I do listen to movie soundtracks when I write.
I don’t listen to music when I read. But I love to listen to movie soundtracks when I write. The movie depends on the action of my writing.
It depends on what I’m writing! If I’m in the groove and my muse is on fire, I listen to Keith Urban or 80s music. If I’m stuck, I listen to the Creative Mind System by Dr. Jeffrey Thompson–don’t know how it works, but it really does help get me going!
I love listening to light classical music while I read – as well as the music of the rain if I can produce it!
Like Carolyn, I opt for silence. I envy Kerri’s ability to tune out the family however I am not fortunate enough to have mastered such technique. Plus any noise stimulates the mini zoo we have. I do the majority of my reading after the family is in bed and the homefront is blissfilly quiet prompting snuggle time with my pets; well, aside from the odd hairball extraction or dog grooming session.
Not usually. Often I’ll listen while I write, but most of my reading is done right before I go to sleep at night. The music I listen to while writing is usually one song or short playlist put on repeat; it minimizes distractions.

I almost always have music playing when I read.
I listen to music. I make a playlist for each new project. If you look at my playlist for the current manuscript, http://adventuresthatscore.blogspot.com/2011/05/new-project-new-playlist.html you’ll notice that there is a lot of angry music. The story is YA and deals with darker topics than I’m used to writing. Thanks for the Network Blog invite through FB. I hope you come visit my blog!
Checked out the trailer, and yes the water is definitely moving…. this is one very cool and scary trailer … well done.
These days, I opt for silence. There is a cacophony of sound around me all day: conversations, phones ringing, children talking (or yelling at each other, just as often), the TV in the background. My husband likes to have the radio on and so often my daily tasks are accompanied by his preferred music. When it’s my time to read, I try to turn all of the outside sounds off, and just focus on the page in front of me.
I almost aways have music on in the background when I write. more often than not it’s classical or easy jazz. If I listen to songs every now and then I notice that the last few lines I’ve written are the lyrics to the song! As for reading, I could be in the midst of a tempest and not notice a thing
I love music while I write but alas not when I read. I love the quiet where I can dive right into the characters and their lives.
BUT, Let’s be real! I have four children and a husband who loves tv and music so I’m pretty well damned. I can however zone them out. It’s a great parental skill you learn with time. LOL.
