Hello and welcome to my June Contest.
Each month I put up a contest and award the prize during the first week of the following month.
This contest will end at midnight your time on 30 June 2011.
During the first week of July, I will write the participant’s name on a sheet of college rule notebook paper and cut the paper into small strips. I will put the names into my NaNoWriMo lead painted mug and let my favorite Non-Reader, Jeepers, pull the name of the lucky winner.
To enter this contest, all you need to do is leave a comment that addresses my ‘readerly’ question. There are no right or wrong answers. Just find the comment link and take as many or few words as you need to answer the question of the month. Because of spam demons, I have the comments set for moderation. This means if it is your first or second entry or comment, it may take a while for your comment to appear.
I’ve given away Amazon Cards, Barnes & Noble Cards and an iTunes card goes out the May winner. This month I am going to send the lucky winner one of my favorite things. Nope, you won’t win a car or an iPad or a Fresh Meat of the Month Membership.
The winner of the June 2011 Contest will win a very cool read.
Once every six months my mail carrier walks up to my door with a magazine so awesome it comes in a box. The delivery is just the beginning. Because of all of the items tucked inside, this magazine has a smell. Every issue comes with a music disc that follows the theme of the articles and the artwork is awesome. It is a magazine that allows full participation from the reader. I have done everything except licking it. One issue tried to address this by including recipe cards.
The winner will receive the latest issue of Esopus, the 16th issue.
The Question for June is about the last book you bought or checked out of a library. Did you choose a non-fiction book so you could ‘read to find out’ or fiction so you could ‘read to escape?’
Remember, this contest ends at midnight your time on 30 June 2011. You are welcome to pass this link along to anyone you wish.
Thank you for visiting. Thank you for returning. Check back often and feel free to comment on comments.

Fiction to escape, when I’m not using alcohol for the same reason.
I perfer a marriage of both. Fiction without the fabric of truth is closer to a lie than the fulfillment I seek when I read—-entertainment.Non-fiction can be entertaining, but leaves very little room for imagination. When I read fiction, I care not a wit for social justice or politiical viewpoints. A truly great book should be blended into a mixture of real and unreal—which leaves a flavor and texture to be savoured long past the time the tome was placed back on the shelf for future use.
Fiction without fact is less than an escape to a better, more esxciting or demanding place. Marry fact to fiction and present me with an alternative to history, one I revist with fresh excitment each time I open the cover. Fail and I place the book in a stack to be donated to our libary. Someone else may find the work I didn’t enjoy one that is worth many trips to that special shelf of dream worlds.
I got here following your link in the Facebook group “Suspense / Thriller Writers”.
And yes, I read to escape. Completely. There is no other purpose. And God knows I have a lot to escape from.
