Fiction Friday Preparations – Good Intentions
It has been a long time. Here I am, thinking about what to write. I had something but I lost it.
Last night I was reading the newest Jack Reacher novel and suddenly had an idea. My darling husband was asleep so I used the reading light on my Kindle Touch to track down a pen and notebook. I turned the Kindle this way and that. I checked the space between the bed and the window. Then I tried to see into the crevasses between the mattress and the side of the bed. Finally, I checked the shelves on the headboard.
I had no luck at all. I couldn’t write it down. Sure, I could have climbed over my sleeping life mate and awakened him in the process, but he’d want to know what was happening and really, who wants to hear a writer say she has an idea? Especially when he has to get up at 4:30AM.
I know I had an idea. But like a dream, it evaporated during the night. I don’t know if it will come back around again. If it does, having forgotten it, I will think it is a fresh idea. It reminds me of the movie, 5o First Dates.
I am going to post this, then I’ll grab a notebook or journal from my Big Bird Nest. I’ll also gather a few ink pens and put them in the bedroom so the next Great American Novel idea can be captured and brought to life at my keyboard.
Till my next post…. Don’t touch anything sharp!

Can you take notes on your Kindle?
Since I sub in high schools, I’ve spent the past 11 years sleeping with my phone next to my alarm clock, right over my head. I keep a pen and pieces of scratch paper up there also, so I can write down the teacher’s name and whether or not there is a first hour class I have to be there for. I also do crosswords to relax before I fall asleep, instead of reading, which I do all day. Husband says he’s afraid someday I’ll fall asleep and shove the pen up my nose…but I’m not worried. I sleep so soundly I wouldn’t even notice!
