Fiction Friday
Character Building and Lost Grandmas
I have been busy working a file on a new character. I am calling her Kat. (Kate)
My work in progress has a working title. Chasing the Dragon. Anyone familiar with the drug culture will know where the phrase comes from but this is not a novel about drugs.
I can’t tell you much at the moment because I am still making it up but Kat was adopted at birth and in turn, Kat placed her child for adoption. She will have abandonment issues along with some impulse control issues.
I am rounding out at least two more characters. Male and Female I haven’t cast them into roles, yet.
Zakgirl, you should email and ask for some of my notes so you’ll know there is a possibility of a third novel.
I Know. You want me to get on with the Fiction Friday Post..
________
Grandma Lost
“Marcy,” Edna nearly shouted into the phone.
“Grandma, you know you don’t have to yell. What’s happened?
“I was out walking. At least I think I was out walking.”
“Grandma, are you okay? Did something happen? Do you need me to come and get you?”
“That’s the thing, Marcy. I don’t know where I am.”
Panic rose from Marcy’s stomach and anchored itself in her vocal chords. “Can you ask someone where you are?” Now Marcy was beginning to shout. Marcy waited for a reply.
“Grandma?” Marcy had gone into full panic mode and got up from the café table. Her friend picked up on the urgency.
“What is it? Do you need me to drive you somewhere? Is someone hurt?” Kendra rose and began gathering up their notebooks and texts. She followed Marcy out into the cool spring day.
“Grandma, do you see anyone? Anyone at all? I’m coming to get you but I need to know where you are. Are you inside?”
“I’m not inside. Marcy, I’m frightened.”
“Of course you are, I’m coming to get you, everything is going to be okay. You said you were outside. Can you read me the name of a store or the sign on the nearest street corner?” Marcy waited.
Marcy covered the phone. “I don’t know what to do. Kendra, she says she is lost. How are we going to find her? Can you call my house for me, tell Mom what’s happened.”
“Marcy?” Grandma’s voice was smaller now. “Marcy, I must have taken a wrong turn and I can’t see the store names. I’m going to go in and ask somebody.” Click.
“Grandma? Grandma!”
Marcy turned to Kendra. “I think I lost her.”
“Here’s your mom.” Kendra passed her cell over to her friend and idled the car. She turned on the car’s wipers against a mist-like rain.
“Mom, Mom, Grandma’s in trouble.”
Come back next week and I’ll see if I can manage to write a scene that will lead to Grandma’s rescue.

Aha! So, I’m on the dragon’s tale (not on her tail I hope). Oh? Is this not a tale about a dragon? I shall email you. Airplane tickets cancelled after I see evidence that you really do have a novel number three in progress… 😉 🙂
