Life is a Story

Tell it Big

Easy To Swallow? The story of a gel-cap with legs.

My choice was limited and the moment had come.

Last night my son and I were having our usual ‘goodnight Watermelon – goodnight Turkey Jerky’ exchange when the topic of what to write for the blog surfaced. We agreed my readers might enjoy hearing about things that are made to be ‘easy.’ Someday I’ll tell you which one of us is Turkey Jerky, but for now, one thing at a time ‘easy.’

I have a packet of easy to swallow gel-caps. To get my sleepless fingers on one of the easy swallows, I first have to get it out of the blister pack away from its neighbors. Once the tiny square is separated almost by court order, I have to get through the second line of child deterrent, the peel back paper, plastic, foil layer. Once that is done, with the assistance and watchful eye of a child, the easy to swallow gel-cap is in my hand, ready to swallow. I am quite worked up by this time and pop it in, then chase it with my handy bottle of tap water.

The easy to swallow pill hits the moist part of my esophagus with a shot of water creating a waterslide effect for it and it stops. I think the water caused it to grow little spider legs. It wedged itself in. More water would certainly move it along but by second wave, the easy to swallow capsule grew more legs and insisted on taking refuge right there, midway between up and down.

Being a gel-cap I suppose it eventually lost its legs and its form and was absorbed by my body. I hope. I don’t even want to consider the possibility that my body might defend itself by building a tiny wall around it. My destiny was to fall asleep with worry and this morning I feel okay.

My next subject on ‘easy’ things will be the very pesky ‘easy to open’ mayonnaise jar in the kitchen.
