2014 Broken Resolution Confession…
There are things, rituals, connected with the ending of a calendar year and the beginning of another.
On the cusp of a new year I took small stock of days gone by. I considered things I would do differently in 2014. Most people call these changes, additions, good intentions or resolutions.
One year I resolved to stop judging people for where they are and instead, meet them on their path, walk with them a little while and celebrate the other person. I liked this so much that I renew it every year.
At the end of the year we buy new wall calendars, my family gives me Anne Geddes’ babies year after year.
A few weeks ago I thought I’d try to keep track of everything I do in a computer program. There are at least 3 calendars that piggy-back my most used software. This should be a no brainer.
I need to put up some review links, piece of cake. Make it a task. Cross it off when I’m done. Start using the OneNote program to keep running notes. You get the idea.
Who needs a day timer on its very own table to the right of my laptop? Put a little notebook there, everything will be good.
By Tuesday, 8 days into the New Year, my resolve broke down. I could not find anything in the computer that told me where I left off when I was putting up a batch of review links. I had nothing to indicate conversations, thoughts, things to do that were accomplished or left undone.
My 2014 Day Timer came this morning. I am now back on track.
The take away is that it only took me 8 days to realize I had set too lofty a goal. I cannot live my life without the day timer open at my side.
As for meeting people on their chosen paths, well, I’m all in for another year.
